Survey of companions of cancer patients about the need and how to express getting incurable cancer

Introduction: Expressing bad news in medicine is one of the most important measures taken by medical staff that should be given to patients in special circumstances that it is necessary to examine the views of companions and patients in this regard. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the necessity and manner of expressing bad news (incurable cancer) from the perspective of cancer patients in the radiocanology clinic. Methods: This study was performed on 200 patients. The information of the registered people and the necessity and how to express the bad news were also recorded. Data were then compared based on Chi-square and Fisher tests. Results: The findings of our study showed that 86.5% agreed to be informed of bad news, 66.5% believed that the patient should be aware of the bad news, 74% believed that if the patient does not want information to anyone To give another, 62.5% agreed to be present when telling bad news to relatives and 41% agreed to lie to the patient. It was also found that 54% believed that relatives should be informed about the news first, 53% believed that the doctor should tell the bad news, 73.5% believed that it should be told in a secluded place, 38% believed that the news should be reported immediately afterwards. 65% believed that information should be given depending on the patient's desire and 84.5% said that it should be reported in person. Conclusion: Most people believe that the patient should be informed about the bad news, but the method of presentation is also important and according to the findings of the present study and determine the specific conditions that people are considering And by educating physicians, it improved bad news for individuals and patients.
